Ostara - (The Vernal or Spring Equinox)
Merrie Meet
and welcome to this new post here on A Little Bit of Magick. I have had an extremely busy week with lots
of things bubbling away under the surface.
This is only to be expected because we are entering into the
season of Ostara and strangely enough as I am writing this post my colleague has walked into my office and passed
a comment about the changes he is feeling in the energies of our planet………..
As I pointed out to him this is perfectly normal for the Ostara season
that usually falls around March 21st and marks the midpoint of
Spring. It is the time when the energies
are expansive and exuberant, when night and day are in perfect balance, and the
amount of light levels are on the increase.
As pagans we understand that the young Sun God will celebrate his
sacred marriage to the Maiden Goddess who subsequently conceives and in nine months
time she will again become the Great Mother
Ostara is a time of great fertility. We see signs of new growth and newborn
animals everywhere we look
The next full moon (that symbolises a time of increased births) is
called the Ostara and is sacred to Eostre the Saxon Lunar Goddess of fertility
(hence Oestrogen)
Traditional
Ostara Foods
All of the following are traditionally the foods of Ostara - Leafy
green vegetable, dairy foods, nuts (pumpkin, Sunflower, Pine, Flower dishes and
Brussels Sprouts
Herbs and
Flowers
Daffodil, Jonquil, Woodruff, Violet, Gorse, Olive, Peony, Iris,
Narcissus and all Spring flowers.
Incense
Jasmine, Rose, Strawberry, Floral of any type
Symbols of
Fertility
Eggs and Rabbits
These are both symbols of the awakening of the earth, the
fertility of all of creation the egg is a symbol of the whole of the Universe. The gold of the egg represents the Sun God
whllst the white is said to represent The White Goddess and it is an
illustration of a moment of perfect balance.
Rabbits too are symbols of fertility as is attested by the well
known phrase of “breeding like rabbits”
So in conclusion this time of year is fantastic and apart from
anything else if you are like me it is a chocaholic’s dream season. I know that I will enjoy this time and I
sincerely hope you will too.
Love and Light to you all and…..
Blessed Be
